Hondas light commercial BEV N-VAN e now available

Honda’s light commercial BEV “N-VAN e:” now available, starting at about 1,430,000 yen with black license plate registration.

On June 13, 2024, Honda Motor announced the launch of its new electric vehicle (BEV), the N-VAN e:, on October 10 of the same year.

A one-seat commercial-specific model is also lined up.

The N-VAN e: is a light commercial EV based on Honda’s N-VAN light commercial vehicle. The new model is said to be quieter and more powerful than its BEV counterparts, while retaining features such as the large cargo space provided by the flat, low floor and high ceiling, and the large opening achieved by eliminating the center pillar on the passenger’s side.

While it is a commercial BEV, a total of four types are available for personal use. The “G” model, which is specialized for commercial use, has only one seat for the driver. The passenger side dashboard has been reshaped to extend the interior length by 95 mm compared to the engine-powered N-VAN, and the elimination of the passenger seat has lowered the floor height by 120 mm compared to the four-seater model described below. The L2 has two seats, a driver’s seat and a rear seat on the right side, for a tandem configuration that can accommodate two passengers and features a large space by eliminating the two seats on the left side and a large pillar-less opening for easy loading and unloading of luggage.

These two types are only available for lease contracts at Honda’s Corporate Sales Department and Honda ON, the new car online store.

The two models for personal use are the “L4” and “FUN,” both of which can accommodate four passengers. The former, the basic model, is equipped with a 7-inch LCD meter. A choice of two-tone exterior colors is also available. The latter model features styling that is more suited to the hobbyist and leisure scene, with a bright, natural beige interior, LED headlights, and quick charging as standard equipment. Of course, two-tone colors are also available.

The drive motor is located in the front (4WD is not available), and the two commercial models produce 53 PS of maximum output, while the two models for personal use produce 64 PS. 162 Nm of maximum torque is the same in both models. The drive lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 29.6 kWh and can travel 245 km per charge as measured in WLTC mode. A cooling/heating system is also provided to prevent battery performance degradation due to temperature changes and to shorten charging time and improve cruising range, especially in winter. Charging ports are located between the left and right headlights.

Safety features include side curtain airbags for the front seats as standard equipment, a first for a light commercial van. The two commercial-use models are equipped with collision damage reduction brakes, pedestrian accident mitigation steering, off-road departure control, auto high beams, and a parking sensor system (rear). In addition to these features, the two types for personal use are equipped with a false start suppression function, a rearward false start suppression function, a lane keeping assist system, adaptive cruise control, a vehicle departure warning function, a sign recognition function, a parking sensor system (front), and a sudden acceleration suppression function.

The G and L2 grades come in two body colors, Taffeta White III and Lunar Silver Metallic, while the L4 grade comes in Platinum White Pearl, Botanical Green Pearl, and Autumn Yellow Pearl, as well as Botanical Green Pearl and Black, and Autumn Yellow Pearl and Black. Two two-tone options are available: Autumn Yellow Pearl & Black; the FUN is not available in the two commercial-oriented colors, but is available in all L4 variants, Nighthawk Black Pearl, Sonic Gray Pearl, and the two-tone Sonic Gray Pearl & Black.

The Honda N-VAN e: lineup and pricing are as follows: It is eligible for the LEVO subsidy (expected to be about 1 million yen for so-called black license plates) or CEV subsidy (maximum amount of 550,000 yen for mini vehicles), and while relying solely on the LEVO subsidy, “all grades are priced below 2 million yen,” which is Honda’s claim is that “all grades are priced below 2 million yen” while relying on the LEVO subsidy.
