No longer news about the number of infected people, “coronas are already past” in Europe.

Whenever a Japanese news program such as nhk reports the number of corona cases by prefecture on a daily basis, or introduces statements by pundits such as “the sixth wave is on a converging trend,” we involuntarily stare at the TV screen in surprise, wondering if the program was on a year ago! I stare at the TV screen in surprise.

In the British media, Corona is now so far in the past that it is not even news (now there is a lot of coverage of the pressure on Prime Minister Johnson to resign due to party-gate and the Ukraine issue).

Most European countries now allow entry with proof of vaccination. In the UK, proof of vaccination is not even required, and entry procedures are exactly the same as before the coronary disaster. Since the Omicron strain is present in the country, it would seem logically obvious that there is no point in bothering to check for its influx.

In the U.K., where corona-related restrictions were reduced to zero in March of this year and entry into the country was made unconditional, there has been no re-emergence of corona and the number of infections and deaths has continued to decline; the daily number of infections peaked on January 5 of this year at about 280,000 and the daily death toll on January 20 of last year at The daily number of infections peaked at about 280,000 on January 5 and 1,387 on January 20 of last year, but have now dropped to the 5,000 range and less than 100, respectively. The requirement to wear masks on public transportation and in stores and facilities has also disappeared, and only the elderly and cautious people (the author being one of them) are wearing masks, which is about 10% of the total.
