The Qatar World Cup is less than six months away. On June 6, Japan’s national soccer team will put its skills to the test against the “kingdom” of Brazil at the National Stadium. We interviewed seven members of the European squad, who have gone through an intense selection process and are expected to be key players at the World Cup.

Daichi Kamata was arguably the most impressive player on the European soccer scene in the 2021-2022 season, playing 120 minutes in the UEFA Europa League (EL) final against Glasgow Rangers, and kicking the ball in the penalty shootout. He was the first Japanese player to win the EL since Shinji Ono (Feyenoord) 20 years ago.
